Alaska Airlines has officially started its new daily nonstop service between Seattle and Reykjavik, Iceland, marking another important step in the airline’s international expansion plans. The inaugural flight departed from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after a special celebration event held at gate N16.
Airport officials, airline staff, and passengers gathered at the terminal to celebrate the launch before the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft took off for Iceland. Travelers on the first flight also received commemorative gifts and souvenirs at the departure gate to mark the occasion.
The new seasonal route will operate daily throughout the summer and continue until early September. The service is also notable as it marks the first time Alaska Airlines has operated a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on a transatlantic route.
Reykjavik becomes the airline’s third European destination introduced this year, following the recent launches of nonstop flights to Rome and London. Alaska Airlines says the new route is aimed at providing more direct travel options for passengers flying from the US West Coast to Europe.
