Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) and Menzies Aviation have inaugurated India’s largest greenfield domestic cargo terminal (DCT) at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB/BLR Airport), marking a major milestone in the airport’s growth and logistics infrastructure. Spanning a vast 245,000 square feet across seven acres, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to meet the increasing demands of air freight and enhance the efficiency of cargo operations at one of India’s busiest airports.

The new cargo terminal is equipped with cutting-edge technology and modern infrastructure to handle a diverse range of goods, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and electronics. With a peak handling capacity of over 150,000 metric tons per year, the terminal is set to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing need for efficient and secure cargo handling. This facility will significantly improve cargo processing time, providing a smoother and faster turnaround for shipments, which is vital for time-sensitive goods like medicines and fresh produce.

By positioning itself as a key hub for both domestic and international cargo traffic, the terminal is expected to strengthen Bengaluru’s role in global supply chains. The facility’s advanced features, such as dedicated temperature-controlled storage spaces, automated sorting systems, and enhanced security measures, will contribute to an elevated level of operational excellence. These upgrades are not only expected to improve logistics efficiency but also help in the reduction of operational costs for cargo operators and businesses.

The launch of India’s largest greenfield domestic cargo terminal underscores BIAL’s commitment to expanding and upgrading its infrastructure to support India’s growing logistics and freight sector. As Bengaluru continues to establish itself as a global business hub, the new terminal will play an essential role in boosting the city’s position in international trade and commerce. This development is expected to contribute significantly to India’s economic growth by improving cargo connectivity across the country and globally.
