Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has officially inaugurated the Amravati airport, marking a significant milestone in the region’s aviation infrastructure. In addition to the airport opening, Fadnavis announced the establishment of a Flying Training Organisation (FTO) in the city, which is set to become the largest pilot training institute in Southeast Asia.
The FTO, located in Amravati, will train 180 pilots annually using a fleet of 34 training aircraft. This institute is poised to become a major player in the global aviation training landscape, providing high-quality training for aspiring pilots. The move is expected to not only meet the growing demand for pilots in India but also attract international students seeking world-class training in a cost-effective environment.
Fadnavis addressed a gathering of dignitaries and aviation professionals during the inauguration, underscoring the importance of the new facilities for boosting the aviation industry and creating significant employment opportunities in Vidarbha. “This initiative will provide skilled pilots to meet the increasing demand for aviation professionals, further strengthening India’s position in the global aviation sector,” he said.
In addition to the FTO, Fadnavis flagged off a flight between Amravati and Mumbai as part of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik). The launch of this flight service is expected to improve connectivity for the people of Amravati and the surrounding region, fostering economic growth and easing access to larger cities.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol, and the Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Ekanth Shinde and Ajit Pawar. The presence of these leaders underscores the importance of this initiative for the state’s development and the nation’s aviation sector.
The opening of Amravati airport and the establishment of the pilot training institute are part of Maharashtra’s broader efforts to improve regional connectivity and invest in the aviation ecosystem. As the region looks toward its future, the new airport and training facilities will play a pivotal role in shaping Vidarbha’s economic growth and its contribution to India’s expanding aviation industry.
