Terminal E at George Bush Intercontinental Airport was officially renamed on Monday, May 18, 2026, in honor of late US Representative Sheila Jackson Lee. The busy international terminal will now be known as Sheila Jackson Lee Terminal E.

Jackson Lee represented Texas’ 18th Congressional District, which includes the airport, for nearly three decades from 1995 until her passing in July 2024 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. The renaming recognizes her long-standing service and contributions to the Houston community.

The Houston City Council unanimously approved the renaming proposal in April 2025. Following a public review and comment process, the official dedication ceremony was held this week with city leaders and Jackson Lee’s family in attendance.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire praised Jackson Lee’s commitment to public service during the ceremony. Terminal E, one of America’s busiest international gateways handling around 35,000 travelers daily, is operated exclusively by United Airlines for domestic and international flights.
