Many Indians deported from the United States in recent weeks were detained at the Mexico-US border, some as recently as December 2024 and January 2025, according to reports from The Indian Express. On Wednesday afternoon, a US military aircraft carrying 104 deported Indian nationals arrived at Amritsar Airport. Among the deportees, 30 hailed from Punjab and 33 from Gujarat, with a significant portion of them—at least 15 from both states—being detained at the border for attempting to enter the US illegally. These individuals were among many others who had traveled to the Mexico-US border in hopes of crossing into the US, seeking better opportunities or asylum.
