The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to commence operations by March 2025, according to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol. This announcement came on Sunday as Mohol addressed the progress and future plans for the airport.
Mohol stated that approximately 70% of the work at NMIA, which was initially scheduled to be completed by December 2024, has already been finished. The remaining 30% of the construction will be completed by March 2025, ensuring that the airport will be fully operational by then.
“Given the current pace of work, we are confident that the remaining construction will be completed on time. Navi Mumbai International Airport will be ready to start operations immediately after the work is finished,” Mohol said during his visit to Pune.
In addition to the update on NMIA, Mohol also revealed plans for the expansion of Pune airport. The expansion will enable the airport to accommodate wider-body aircraft, significantly improving international connectivity from Pune. This development is expected to boost the region’s global accessibility and economic growth.
Mohol, who was recently appointed as the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, was visiting his constituency, Pune, for the first time in his new role. During his visit, he emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing aviation infrastructure to meet the growing demands of air travel in India.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport project has been a crucial part of the government’s strategy to decongest the existing Mumbai airport and cater to the rising air traffic in the region. Once operational, NMIA is expected to serve as a major hub for both domestic and international flights, significantly boosting the region’s connectivity and economic development.
The expansion of Pune airport, along with the completion of NMIA, reflects the government’s proactive approach to addressing the infrastructure needs of the aviation sector. These projects are anticipated to enhance passenger experience, promote tourism, and support the economic growth of the respective regions.
As the construction of NMIA progresses towards completion, further updates and developments will be closely monitored by stakeholders and the public, eagerly awaiting the launch of this significant infrastructure project.
