JetBlue has announced significant network and operational changes as part of its ongoing strategy to improve profitability. The airline will close its flight attendant base at Newark Liberty International Airport and its tech operations bases at Newark and LaGuardia Airport later this year, with affected employees offered transfer opportunities.
As part of the restructuring, JetBlue will also discontinue seasonal flights from Newark to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The carrier says the move is aimed at concentrating resources on routes that deliver stronger financial performance and long-term growth potential.
At the same time, the airline is expanding its footprint in Fort Lauderdale, where it has become the largest carrier following the collapse of Spirit Airlines. JetBlue plans to add more premium Mint-equipped flights, including expanded services to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.
The changes reflect JetBlue’s broader strategy of reducing costs, optimizing its network, and capitalizing on growing demand for premium travel in South Florida. Company executives have also previously highlighted concerns over rising operating costs at New York-area airports, making Florida a key focus for future growth.
