The last week of February was a record-breaking period for Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, as it achieved new highs in both passenger traffic and flight operations. The airport recorded its highest number of flyers on a single day, with 1,29,466 passengers passing through the airport on February 23, surpassing previous records.
In an exclusive interview with The New Indian Express (TNIE), Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bangalore International Airport Ltd, which operates KIA, confirmed the milestone. He stated that, on average, the airport handles around 1,18,000 passengers daily. The spike in traffic during the last week of February highlights the growing popularity of KIA as a major aviation hub in India.
This achievement reflects not only the increasing number of passengers choosing KIA for their travel needs but also the airport’s capacity to handle large volumes of flyers efficiently. The surge in passenger numbers is attributed to the expansion of both domestic and international flight services at the airport, coupled with the rise in air travel demand following the pandemic.
The impressive growth in passenger traffic further establishes Kempegowda International Airport as one of the busiest and most efficient airports in India, positioning it for even greater milestones in the future.
