A disagreement over a window shade reportedly escalated between two Delta passengers, eventually involving cabin crew and continuing after the flight landed. A TikTok creator said she had specifically chosen a window seat because keeping the shade closed helps manage her anxiety and discomfort while flying.
According to her account, the passenger seated in the middle wanted the shade open because she was also nervous about flying and preferred seeing outside during takeoff and landing. The two passengers could not agree, and the middle-seat passenger allegedly reached across the window-seat passenger to raise the shade.
The window-seat passenger eventually agreed to keep the shade open but later asked airline staff about moving the other passenger. The middle-seat passenger was reportedly relocated, while the window-seat passenger was asked to provide her account of the incident.
Delta said its Customer Care team contacted the passenger and worked directly with her to address her concerns. The incident has renewed debate over who controls an airplane window shade, with common passenger etiquette generally giving control to the window-seat passenger. However, airline crew instructions and specific safety procedures take priority.
