Southwest Airlines has introduced “Independence One,” a new patriotic aircraft livery celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The aircraft joins the airline’s existing themed fleet, including Freedom One and Liberty One, highlighting national pride through aviation.

The design features strong symbolism, with “1776” displayed prominently on the fuselage, alongside the phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Thirteen stars represent the original colonies, while engine designs draw inspiration from the historic Betsy Ross flag. The aircraft carries tail number N1776R and will showcase America250 decals throughout the year.

The unveiling took place at Baltimore Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport, where CEO Bob Jordan described the aircraft as a symbol of freedom and the airline’s legacy. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy was also present at the ceremony.

Independence One is scheduled to operate its first flight from Dallas Love Field to Philadelphia International Airport. The airline also announced a broader initiative supporting nonprofits, while other carriers like American Airlines, United Airlines, and Alaska Airlines are expected to roll out similar commemorative liveries.
